Sažetak
This paper provides a short reference to the prevailing thematic orientations of the Croatian historiography in the context of creating a religious picture from the bottom up, with particular emphasis being placed on “ordinary” believers, their everyday religious life, religious images, and the practices and forms of popular piety, as well as to indicate certain interpretative possibilities. The presentation is limited to the Roman Catholic dioceses of the 18th century Croatian Danube Region, i.e. to a period immediately following the change of imperial structures when the rule of the Islamic Ottoman Empire was replaced with the rule of the Catholic Habsburg Monarchy. The overview of the results achieved to date does not represent an exhaustive bibliographical account, but is rather limited to individual authors who are considered representative with regard to their contribution to the research of individual topics concerning church and religious history of the 18th century Croatian Danube Region. Also, research potentials are not exhausted by a summary reference to potential theoretical and methodological approaches and interpretative possibilities.
