Sažetak
During the period of Croatian accession, as well as after Croatia joined the EU, the main focus has been predominantly placed on establishing a closer cultural cooperation between the Croatian cultural sector and the EU and other European countries, while establishing international cultural relations beyond Europe was not in the spotlight. For the International conference ‘International Cultural Relations of the European Union – Europe, the World, Croatia’ (Rijeka, 2019.) I have set off to investigate whether Croatia as the newest EU member state shows interest in international cultural cooperation beyond Europe, does it support public cultural diplomacy initiatives and what framework exists in Croatia for fostering international cultural relations activities. In order to be able to gain insight in how activities concerning international cultural cooperation have been implemented in practice, I have analyzed the strategic documents and available data published on the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs websites and the available data about financing provided for supporting international cultural cooperation. Furthermore, I placed my focus on Croatia’s involvement with the existing regional platforms that the EU has set up for Asia, Latin America and the Euro-Mediterranean region, trying to find out whether these platforms are actively promoted in Croatia in order to bring cooperation opportunities to Croatian cultural professionals and whether there are mechanisms in place to give more systematic support for developing non-European international cultural relations.
