Sažetak
The fabrics for swimsuits are visually very similar: all are knitted ; at first glance they differ only in colour or print. Yet a surprisingly large amount of research is being devoted in improving the properties of swimsuit materials. Fabric properties for swimsuits primarily depend on the target group of consumers (amateur swimming, training, competitive swimming). In this paper, the properties of nine commercial fabrics from well-known manufacturers were examined and analysed. According to the description, all fabrics are intended for amateur swimming, that is fashion swimwear, and six of them are also intended for sports swimsuits. Differences in properties of the two groups were studied. Fabrics whose purpose is described exclusively for fashion swimwear have a lower measured mass than fabrics intended for fashion/sports purposes (up to 170 g/m2) and have an elastane content of up to 28%. Fabrics intended for a sports purpose, are ultra-resistant to chlorine, with mass up to 218 g/m2 and have an elastane content of up to 41%. Only one of the observed fabrics have the raw material composition of polyester/elastane, all others have polyamide/elastane composition. In this paper are investigated physical-mechanical properties of previously described fabrics and the results of measurements are discussed in the context of fabric main purpose (fashion v.s. sports).
