Sažetak
Introduction: Hearing loss affects many important aspects of life, such as speech development, learning, social and professional life. Moreover, there is a stigma associated with it. Everyday communication has significantly changed during the COVID-19 pandemic due to reduced social interactions and new safety measures. Methodology: A survey was carried out of fifty hearing-impaired individuals from different age groups. A questionnaire was created for the purpose of this research. The first part of the questionnaire collected data on basic socio-demographic characteristics of respondents, while the second part probed their opinions about the quality of communication, communication difficulties they are faced with, and ways in which they overcome communication barriers caused by anti-pandemic measures. Results: This study provides insight into the quality of communication for people with hearing loss during the COVID-19 pandemic and identifies barriers to communication. The results show that the wearing of face masks makes communication more difficult. Discussion: The research contributes to a better understanding of communication difficulties faced by people with hearing loss, and identifies ways in which society could help them to increase their quality of life.
