Sažetak
Introduction: Palliative care is a holistic approach focused on the quality of life of patients and their families while facing an incurable disease. The satisfaction of nurses/nursing technicians working in palliative care units is extremely important for the quality of care provided, as well as the growing awareness and acceptance of palliative care in the general population. Method: The research was conducted using survey questionnaires prepared for two populations ; one for 86 nurses in the General hospital Varaždin, and the other for 196 participants from the general population. Results: Participants from the general population who reside in urban areas have more positive attitudes towards health professionals than participants from rural areas. Furthermore, respondents who work in health care have more positive attitudes towards health professionals than those who come from the nonhealth professions. Discussion: The work of nurses in palliative care is highly valued in the general population. The education and knowledge of professionals are constantly improving, and awareness of possible improvement in providing the palliative care is related to working conditions and investments in education.
