Sažetak
The corpse of an adult male White Stork (Ciconia ciconia) was delivered to the Laboratory of Pathology, Croatian Veterinary Institute (CVI), Poultry Center (PC), Zagreb. The bird was found near a house in a small village, where there was a nest. The owner testified about the sudden fall of the bird from the nest. Although X-ray examination did not show any traumatic lesions in the skeletal system or soft tissues, or the presence of firearms-related injuries, the necropsy finding confirmed the lesions indicative of the traumatic event. Toxicological finding: carbofuran and hydroxycarbofuran were found in the stomach content and in the liver as well as in the larvae of forensically important blowfly Calliphora vicina (Diptera: Calliphoridae) sampled from the different parts of the body. Larvae in which a higher amount of carbofuran was found were smaller in size than those in which the toxicological examination did not yield a positive result. The dependence of morphometric differences of larvae on the presence of carbofuran implied the study of changes in post-mortem interval (PMI)
