Sažetak
Purpose of the study: The use of digital materials can enhance learning experiences, and deepen levels of learner’s engagement and collaboration.1 Our main goal was to investigate which digital materials would ERC courses participants mostly use for courses. Materials and methods: A total of 235 (15%) of 1600 participants of ERC courses in Austria and Croatia completed our online survey from 22nd of May until 1st of June 2012, after receiving an email invitation. Median age of participants was 37 years (range 25–66) (female – 56%, medical doctors – 70%, course in Austria – 75%, instructor of at least one ERC course – 47%). The survey consisted of 29 questions divided into 4 parts: A – data about Internet and mobile technology usage habits (11 questions), B – data about use of Internet and social networks during conferences (6 questions), C – data about desired digital materials for courses (5 questions), and D – demographic data (7 questions). Results: Forty percent of participants answered that they would be able to prepare for an ERC course exclusively using digital materials, without a printed manual. Nevertheless, a vast majority (91%) thought that courses should offer a printed manual. Among other things participants wanted from a course were presentation slides (91%) and video recordings of lectures (77%), digital manuals (79%), and free Internet connection during courses (67%). Most participants preferred for video recordings of lectures (51%), skills (40%) and algorithms (36%) to be available after the course for later viewing. On the other hand, an interactive e- learning manual was something they desired to be available before the course (32%). Conclusions: Our preliminary results indicate that ERC courses participants would appreciate the addition of digital materials alongside traditional ones for an enhanced learning experience. The survey will continue to include larger number of participants from Austria and Croatia, as well as other European countries.
