Sažetak
The COVID-19 pandemic has been unprecedented in its scale, affecting almost all countries concurrently. Governments all over the world have imposed travel restrictions for inbound and outbound travels, major cities have been placed under lockdown, and vacation destinations have become off-limits to reduce the spread of the virus. While the pandemic’s full impact on the tourism and hospitality sector has yet to be seen, these things remain clear: tourism and traveling will not be the same. The crisis is an opportunity to rethink tourism for the future. Many countries are now developing measures to build a more resistant and resilient post-COVID-19 tourism economy. These include preparing plans to support the sustainable recovery of tourism, promoting the digital transition, and move to a greener tourism system. “Slow tourism” provides such a concept. It is perceived as a new type of sustainable tourism and a promising alternative to mass tourism with which tourists, destination managers, and tourism service providers are willing to engage. It is committed to creating a more human, environment-friendly, and more powerful place for life. In academic research, there is little consensus on what “slow” actually means and how it is practiced or interpreted in relation to different tourism contexts, cultures, and mobilities. Therefore, this study aims to explore the concept of “slow tourism”, its evolution, current scope, and its potential in the process of post-COVID-19 tourism recovery. The study adopts a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis of the Scopus database. The articles published from 2011 to 2021 in English peer-reviewed academic journals were analyzed. The current research excluded publications from major conferences, books, book chapters, and dissertations. Findings deliver significant insights about prior research and indicate that opportunities for future research on “slow tourism” are related to sustainability and authentic travel experience.
