Sažetak
Purpose or Learning Objective: The purpose of this study is to present advantages of using custom- made patient dose management system (DMS). Methods and Background:Importance of using DMS as a tool for improvement of quality management and optimization of radiology practice is beyond doubt. The main obstacles in establishing DMS are software price, need for a radiation dose structured report (RDSR) and/or inability to cover all imaging modalities. So, instead of purchasing DMS software or installing an open-source application, we have developed a custom-made DMS as an extension of existing PACS. Results or Findings:The custom-made DMS supports all imaging modalities. Data are obtained from RDSR and/or DICOM header and from external DAP- meters. Data are stored in openly accessible SQL database for analysis. DMS calculates DRLs and in some cases it estimates patient effective dose. After an interventional procedure has been finished, it notifies the operator if the trigger level has been exceeded. It also enables identification of patients undergoing multiple imaging procedures. Conclusion: Custom-made DMS supports all imaging modalities used in our hospital thus enabling us to track patient doses and to manage cases involving patients requiring multiple imaging procedures as well as unintended and accidental exposures.
