Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to analyse how five junctures of plot development 1described in Nāṭyaśāstra form the composition line in Kālidāsa's play The Recognition of Śākuntalā. Strictly planned composition line of the play The Recognition of Śākuntalā can be seen through the lens of idealised plot structures based on the dramaturgical theory illustrated in Nāṭyaśāstra. The five junctures of plot development build a specific model which is repeatedly manifested on micro and macro composition levels. Macro composition includes the plot of all seven acts and the micro composition implies the plot in separated acts. The axis of the plot is the central part (the third) of the five junctures model and this axis is the point which symmetrically divides the other parts. The first and the second parts mirror the fourth and the fifth part. The same scheme can be found in the play. The composition of the play will be studied through the analysis of different motives, emotional states of the characters and their transformations. Respecting the strictly prescribed composition rules, the play does not seem artificial or schematic, moreover, its composition implies some specific features.
