Sažetak
This thesis comprises six translations with commentary. Excerpts from four books were translated from English into Croatian (A University Education, United States Foreign Policy & National Identity in the 21st Century, Bullying and Victimization Across the Lifespan: Playground Politics and Power, and Stereotyping: The Politics of Representation ), and two from Croatian into English (Sjećanje šume and Faust Vrančić - Portret izumitelja). The commentary focused on explaining the choice of a translation procedure for selected culture-bound terms. Several translation procedures were proposed and discussed for each of the terms. The final choice was motivated primarily by the text type (according to Paul Newmark’s functionalist approach, which distinguishes between expressive, informative, and vocative texts) and the characteristics of the assumed target audience.
