Sažetak
The credential 'International Board Certified Lactation Consultant' identifies an experienced member of the health care team who has acquired specialist skills in the clinical management of the breastfeeding dyad. IBCLCs adhere to a Code of Ethics and work according to Professional Standards of Practice. Continuing education is manatory with re-certification every 5 years. Most IBCLCs work as nurses, midwives or doctors in a maternity ward, NICU or paediatric unit or in the community. Others are employed as professional educators or advisors in implementing policies for governments. The presence of IBCLCs in maternity facilities has been proven to impmrove breastfeeding outcomes and hence, they are sought afger and respected for their experience and knowledge. This internationally recognized credential provides the knowledge, skills and confidence essential for counseling mothers in all aspects of breastfeeding.
