Sažetak
Introduction Infant sleeping recommendations and practices vary, which may lead parents to turn to their paediatricians for advice. Therefore, our aims were to investigate: 1) whether paediatricians routinely discuss infant sleeping with their patients’ parents ; 2) what advice is given by paediatricians on the topic of infant sleeping and 3) paediatricians’ knowledge on risk factors for SIDS. No previous research has been conducted on infant sleeping practices in Croatia. Design and Setting This cross-sectional study was conducted between February and April, 2018, among all primary care paediatricians in the County of Dalmatia, Croatia. Primary care paediatricians in Croatia provide care to all children from birth to school age. Methods Based on the scientific literature on infant sleeping practices, a two-page, 14-question survey for physicians was compiled, including three open format questions. Topics covered included: age, year of training, practice location, whether physicians routinely discussed infant sleeping practices with their patients’ parents, advice given on infant sleeping practices, risk factors for SIDS and perception of infant sleep practices in relation to infant feeding. Surveys were distributed to all primary care paediatric practices in the county of Dalmatia, along with self-addressed stamped envelopes in which paediatricians returned the completed, anonymous surveys. Data were entered into Excel tables and analysed using descriptive statistics and qualitative methods. Results and Conclusion Results and Conclusion will be presented at the ABM Meeting in Rotterdam, once data collection and analysis are completed.
