Sažetak
In this chapter authors provide a historical overview of migration processes within Croatia, from the socialist period, focusing on the migration of rural youth. Migration processes within and away from Croatia in the past decades have significantly impacted the contemporary demographic status of the country. The authors use demographic, geographic and sociological scholarship coupled with statistical data to analyze the consequences of various types of migration on the uneven demographic and social development of rural and urban areas. The authors argue that depopulation and aging remain the main determinant of the future demographic development of rural areas and Croatia as whole, pointing to numerous potential problems in social and economic development.
