Sažetak
The University Psychiatric Hospital Vrapče, from its foundation up to date, raises the importance of interdisciplinary access to patients with mental illnesses. This is evident from the fact that psychiatrists, as team leaders, continuously cooperate with social workers, psychologists, and social pedagogues ; as well with nurses and technicians, work therapists, and all other staff that interacts with patients on a daily basis. The professional activity of social pedagogues is based on the value framework that is reflected in the acceptance of a multi- and interdisciplinary and multitheoric-based bio-psycho-social approach to a person. Social pedagogues in their work focus on the awareness of each patient's risk and protective factors, the support of his / her potential, and the quality of social functioning. The aim of the paper is to provide a historical overview of social pedagogy in Croatian psychiatry, with emphasis on both: professional and education activities. This paper presents a historical method for analyzing data on the presence and activity of social pedagogues in psychiatry. The results of the paper summarize the state of the art today and open the issues of further development. To conclude, social pedagogues, take an important place in the area of work with people within psychiatry, which is evidenced by the continuous increase of employed professionals of this profile, as well as the expansion of the possibilities of action within therapeutic procedures.
