Sažetak
The 1999 movie The Matrix created a world where humans are situated in a virtual world created by, and consisting of Artificial Intelligence. This special context enables a pragmatical approach to the speech of A.I. and a comparison to the human characters. Physical and conceptual contexts are of the essence for the understanding of situations and utterances used in the movie. Conversational Implicature, Speech Acts, and Politeness, are notions considered in this comparison, and show that there are unique patterns to the speech of A.I. Human speech, even in a fictional, futuristic setting remains more prolific and complex in paradigmatic features than that of A.I. The abilities of A.I. characters in the movie offer interesting perspective for discussion in comparison with modern-day findings.
