Sažetak
During implementation and evaluation of early intervention programs, there is a need for identification of all children’s specificities, but at the same time, it is important to determine and make use of all the available potential nested in the children, in family members and local community. The article provides an overview of the main findings which support the need for multidimensional approach to early intervention for children at risk of developmental disorders and those with evident disabilities. It also explains some basic socio- demographic context and past experiences. When outlining some examples on how actual scientific findings influenced changes in approaching early intervention perspectives in Croatia, it shortly describes the functioning of the Rehabilitation Centre of the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences at University of Zagreb and several other initiatives of public and non- governmental organisations. In their work, they promote the need for early intervention in children with neurodevelopmental risks, children with multiple disabilities and those with intellectual disabilities by supporting their families and emphasising the necessity of early intervention in local communities.
