Sažetak
Constitution of sweet cherry S-alleles and knowledge about incompatibility groups they belong to is of essential importance for orchard management and the choice of adequate pollinators for leading varieties in the orchard. The detection of S- allele combinations is highly facilitated by application of DNA molecular marker techniques used for detection of fragments specific for particular genes coding for S- ribonuclease, a protein that determines gametophytic self- incompatibility in Rosaceae plant family. S- alleles were detected in four genotypes of local sweet cherry varieties from the region around Banja Luka: ‘Hrušt’ (S 3 S 12 , group XXII), ‘Ašlamka’ and, ‘Biljur’ (both S 4 S 7 , group XXIX), and ‘Azijanka’ (S 3 S 4 , group III). These varieties, although locally cultivated, are important as a biodiversity heritage, but also have potential for revitalisation and further spread in production. Reliably identified S- alleles of these varieties is the important step in overall variety characterisation.
