Sažetak
In this scientific paper a full analysis is given of verbal forms used for expressing the future categories in the English and Croatian languages, as well as nuances of meaning and modality that are hidden in the numerous uses of certain verb forms. Also, an attempt was made to clarify the problems and the reasons why they occur when learning ways of expressing the future in English. A possible reason for this is that the Croatian language grammars and textbooks interpret future times in a different way than those in the English language. An analysis of Croatian and English grammars showed a difference in the methodological approach to syntactic structure and differently designed units in the grammars of the two languages. Despite the noticed differences, translation equivalents at the end of this paper show that there is similarity in the expression of future which can facilitate learning e.g. simple future tense will/shall and Going to future sentences are expressed in Croatian with Futur prvi, and the future expressed by the present continuous and present simple are translated into Croatian also with the present tense. At the end of the paper an interesting example is given from the primary school practice that in any case is not negligible, since we get the basis of our knowledge in primary school education. A practical example is given as a working and usable example since it has proven to be effective and appropriate for the children's cognitive abilities.
