Sažetak
Virtual switches have become an integral component of the modern Network function virtualization (NFV) solutions and the research and development in this area is emerging for the last years. Although the user-space virtual switching was proven to be dominant in terms of performance comparing it to the kernel virtual switching, it's applicability in real traffic scenarios and resulting trade-off between performance and flexibility is still one of the big challenges and research topics [1]. In this work we present kernel virtual switching throughput evaluation methodology based on the execution area (EA) distribution by CPU core pinning. We build these EAs from white-box analysis of packet processing in kernel.
