Sažetak
The Euganean Geothermal Field is a well-known thermal field in northern Italy developing along the NW-SE trending Schio-Vicenza fault system. The thermal waters were naturally outflowing in the recent past and one of the most important thermal springs was located on the Montirone Hill. The outflowing thermal waters formed a travertine mound that is up to 5 m higher than the surrounding alluvial plain. The mound is deformed by NW-SE and NNE-SSW fissures that parallel the main regional structural elements. The Montirone travertine deposit and its fracture mesh strongly supports the existence of 1) a releasing structure in the subsurface controlling the rising of the thermal waters from the deep thermal reservoir, and 2) the ongoing activity of the Schio-Vicenza fault.
