Sažetak
The starting idea for the paper is the usage of human rights discourse as a means of legitimising various agendas or narratives that would otherwise be rejected as inappropriate. In this regard, some of basic terms borrowed from human rights discourse can be emptied from its content and used in completely different, sometimes even opposite, purposes. The paper compares three types of discourses on Jasenovac that are present in the Croatian public sphere: official speeches given at the annual state commemorations of Jasenovac victims, permanent exhibition at the Jasenovac Memorial Museum, and propaganda activities held by the Society for the Research of the Threefold Jasenovac Concentration Camp. All these types of discourses are using human rights terminology and are advocating victims’ recognition and right to remember, although with completely different goals.
