Sažetak
Emil Stahlberges was appointed the first professor of physics and mechanics at the i.&r. Naval academy in Fiume (now Rijeka, Croatia). Based on his previous experiences in scientific research obtained in Vienna Meteorological and Hydrological service and Hydrographic office in Triest, he started modern scientific research in the Kvarner bay and Adriatic sea. Based on 3 years monitoring data he published the book entitled "The high and low Tide in the Bay of Rijeka", where he described in detail the sea level variations including a phenomenon that is now called "meteotsunami". He also organised in 1874 the first "preliminary" expedition to the Adriatic sea, where some instruments constructed by Academy's professors were also used.
