Sažetak
Although cobalt it is still widely used as a binder in hardmetal production, strict regulations and great demand in automotive industry have encouraged further development of hard metals with nickel as alternative binder. WC–Ni hardmetals show some inferior mechanical properties and superior corrosion resistance in comparison with WC–Co hardmetals. Using nanopowders and correct sintering conditions those inferior properties in WC–Ni carbides can be drastically improved while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. Starting mixtures with 11 wt.% Ni were prepared for the research purposes. The grain size of the starting Ni powderamounts to 720 nm, the WC powder amounts to 150 nm, and VC and Cr3C2 grain growth inhibitors were added to the starting mixtures. The consolidation of the mixtures was carried out by the sinter-HIP process. Characterization of consolidated samples with respect to density, porosity, microstructure, and mechanical properties was performed and presented in the paper.
