Sažetak
According to official data, Croatian economy achieved substantial export growth within the first six months of 2015. The production of leather and leather products, as a sector, had one of the highest growth rates, which is considered as very important because mainly depends on export. In recent works, the sector of leather and leather products was marked as a declining industry, but in reality, this sector in Croatia has been constantly growing for almost a decade, and it has almost doubled its volume within the same timeframe. Nevertheless, such growth has not, so far, been in the focus of empirical research which could establish what competitive advantages are and what they are based on, how and why such labour is an intensive and successful sector despite much higher production costs than those in South America or Eastern Asia, and what the position of this sector is in the new world division of labour. This paper is focused on establishing the competitive advantages through in-depth interview with the top management of top 10 Croatian companies in the leather and leather products sector, which will be listed in the conclusion of this paper.
