Sažetak
Introduction Malnutrition, especially in the elderly population, is slowly becoming a serious public health problem in developed countries. Therefore, the assessment of nutritional status is becoming part of the diagnostic program in acut hospitals, but also in rehabilitation institutions. For this purpose, different screening tests are used - most often used are MNA - Mini Nutritional Assessment and NRS - Nutritional Risk Score 2002. Our goal was to compare these two methods in patients hospitalized in a geriatric rehabilitation department. Methods A total of 287 patients (age above 65 years ; 100 men and 187 women) hospitalized in a geriatric rehabilitation department were included in the investigation. The patient data were retrospectively analyzed. The nutritional risk assessment was carried out by applying the MNA and the NRS 2002 Questionnaire, and the results were subsequently statistically analyzed in different age groups. Results The malnutrition prevalence has been detected with MNA- Assessment in 93 patients (32, 4%), and in further 106 patients (36.9%) was detected the risk of malnutrition. The prevalence of malnutrition in men was 27% and the increased risk of malnutrition was 37%. In women, malnutrition was confirmed in 66 females (35.3%), and the risk of malnutrition in 69 females (36.9%). The NRS 2002 test was positive in a total of 75 patients (26.1%) - 24 male and 51 women. Conclusion Our analysis has shown a better indication of MNA test in identifying malnourished elderly patients. The study confirmed the need for routine screening for malnutrition in patients on geriatric rehabilitation.
