Sažetak
This research aims to identify the influence of the laser cutting method used to prepare samples of high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) for thermal-dynamic mechanical analysis. The two methods selected to prepare the samples were mechanical and laser cutting. The HIPS used in the study was taken from discarded printer carcasses. In addition to the Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis, the samples were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and through Stereo Zoom Microscope. Despite the imperfections present on the edges of the samples, which were caused by burning from the laser, the results show that the type of cut used does not significantly affect the glass transition temperature of the polymer under analysis. Consequently, that laser cutting was found to be a faster and easier cutting method than the mechanical cutting.
