This book explores the foundations of deep learning, a major AI paradigm. Special emphasis is given to topics of philosophical and foundational significance, and to historical revisit to the most important influences in the early days of deep learning. A paper on the earliest technological reception of artificial neural networks and cybernetics in Croatia is also included.
