Sažetak
Haematological and biochemical analysis and blood lead concentration is very essential field in veterinary medicine that provides inexpensive and reliable results in determinating animal health. Lead is considered a highly toxic contaminant with important impact to birds of prey. The study was realized in all admitted Griffon vultures at the Beli Visitor and Rescue Centre for Griffon vultures in Croatia. The goal of this study was to investigate haematological and biochemical parameters and lead concentration in Griffon vultures in Croatia. In order to investigate haematological and biochemical profiles and lead concentration of birds of prey, the CBC, haemoglobin concentration, haematocrit, blood cell indices, total WBC and lead concentration of 12 Griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus) were analysed. Obtained results provide essential and play a very important role for evaluating the health status and pathologic conditions of these birds of pray. Since data of haematological and biochemical values and lead concentration of these birds of pray are still scarce, further studies are still needed to asess the physiological range of haematological, biochemical and lead values in Griffon Vultures in Croatia.
