Sažetak
Dubrovnik was important trade city in Medieval and post-medieval time, with its own glass production in the period from 14th-16th century that was at that time the most significant in the Balkan region. Dubrovnik glass finds are not investigated well, except in larger scale via archival data, so we try to give new light into th eglass material from this region, which has very diverse provenance, chronology, typology and style. Glassware was imported in this region before domestic production started, while later on domestic glass was also exported. Medieval and post-Medieval glass finds which comprise period from 10thj/12th-17th/18th century, and are from the archaeological excavations from centre of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik region, were analsed using Particle Induced X-Ray Emission (PIXE), particle Induced Gamma-Ray Emission (PIGE) and Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PXRD) methods. PIXE/PIGE method has revealed several compositional groups: natron glass, halophytic plant ash glass, mixed-alkali plant ash and land plant ash glass (forest glass, potassium glass). PXRD method has shown that samples are of amorphous structure apart from the negligible percent of crystalline phase in glasses. The analysis confirmed discovery of flux agents used for production of glassware, which were in use during centuries in Dubrovnik region.
