Sažetak
The aim of this study was to investigate the occurence of contact dermatitis as a consequence of frequent hand wash in the health staff ; to determine which disinfectant agents are commonly used in everyday work ; to highlight the risk factors as well as prevention measures. The research was conducted at health care staff of General Hospital Dubrovnik at the Department of Surgery, Intensive care unit and Department of Internal Disease. The resarch included forty participants. Data was obtained with usage of questionnaire, consisted of 15 questions, from August to October 2017. The results of our research indicate that more than 80% of examinees wash their hands more than 20 times a day and 54% of examinees always use hand disinfectants, while 40% of examinees rarely use skin care products, 6% of them do not use it at all. The results of our research confirm that health care professionals are in the risk group for developing contact dermatitis due to the nature of their work. Although this research included relatively small group of participants, the results lead to a conclusion that additional efforts are needed in education about the importance of washing hands and the use of protective agents.
