Sažetak
The paper presents comparison of the design features between classical liftable car decks fully made of steel and alternative concept made of steel grillage and composite panels. The dimensions of the structural elements were designed to meet all given constraints/requirements (allowable stress, buckling, deflection, etc.), to be able to compare the different concepts consistently. Minimization of the structural mass was used as the objective for the redesign of both evaluated deck concepts, while a finite element method (FEM) has been used to generate structural response and evaluate structural feasibility. A comparative overview of the characteristics of both concepts (w.r.t weight and stiffness/strength) are given. At the end, short discussion on the rationality of the application of the evaluated concepts of liftable decks has been given w.r.t influence on general overall ship performance (reduction of total ship mass, VCG, etc.).
