Sažetak
The exploratory wells drilled so far in the Hayan contract area located in Palmyrides region in Central Syria proved the oil and gas & condensate discoveries already found on the Block. On the NW part of the Block five exploratory wells were completed on the Jihar field and the two exploratory wells on the Al Mahr field. Hydrocarbon discoveries ior shows were registered in the Middle Triassic carbonates - Kurrachine Dolomite formation (predominantly consisting of dolomite and limestone, evaporites, shale to claystone), in the Lower Triassic sediments of Amanus shale formation and in the Carboniferous sediments of Markada formation (shale to sandstone intercalation with minor siltstone and limestone). The subsidence and thermal and maturation history of the Jihar and Al Mahr fields have been modelled using the B-Mod-1D program in order to assess the conditions of potential source rock. The model is based on the previous results including geological data from 2D and 3D seismic interpčretation, stratigraphy, thermal and geochemical data available in order to create a conceptual model of the basin evaluation to the depth of approx. 4500 m. The model was calibrated by present day temperatures and Ro from the representative wells. Eocene and Paleocene samples described as marls and clayey limestones (SR-I, SR-II, SR-III) predominantly with hydrogen rich kerogen of type II, show good to very good generative potential. Upper Cretaceous limestone (SR-IV) is richer in organic matter and classified as excellent source rock. Middle Triassic shales and dolomitized limestone (SR-V) contain kerogen type II-III. The model was made for the representative Jihar-2 and Al mahr-2 exploatory well while the following inputs were considered: for thermal option geothermal calculation with gradients calculated on the basis of 10 temperatures ; the maturity trend was calculated by Tmax vs. depth 8VR LLNL method) ; the lithology of formations were defined a mixture of pure lithologies while the Simple-Ro maturity calculation (VRLLNL) was chosen. The model shows that the deposits SR-I to SR-IV are immature having no possibilities to generate hydrocarbons. Maximum temperature of pyrolysis indicates thermal immaturity of organic matter of these samples (SR-I to SR-IV). Regarding history of thermal gradient, burial depth and time, Triassic sediments (SR-V) are being oil prone. Thermal and burial modeling of SR-V samples indicated possible oil generation. Having analyzed representative samples from Jihar and Al Mahr wells as model showed it is clear that only SR-V has potential to generate oil. However, there is a possibility that the younger source rock could have generate hydrocarbons while being buried in the deeper parts of the depression where conditions were favorable for hydrocarbon generation. Also, the discovered hydrocarbons might have migrated from some other, older and deeper potential source rock including the Carboniferous shales from Markada formation or from the regionally defined Tanf formation of Silurian age. That gives the optimistic assumption to possibility of discovering new hydrocarbon reserves.
