Sažetak
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the main public health challenges worldwide. In the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), 33, 000 deaths are estimated to be attributed to infections with AMR bacteria annually [1]. Ensuring prudent antimicrobial use is key to an effective response to AMR, as antimicrobial use exerts ecological pressure on bacteria and contributes to the emergence and selection of resistant bacteria. Here, we describe trends in antimicrobial consumption of fluoroquinolones, third-generation cephalosporins and carbapenems between 2001 and 2018 and for AMR in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
