Sažetak
In this research, the influence of iron and copper metal ions on the fluorescent compounds of stilbene structure in solutions was studied. Fluorescent compounds are additives in detergents as optical brighteners or UV absorbers aimed to compensate a loss in washing and drying process. So, it is possible to obtain textile material with improved optical properties (whiteness) and protective properties against harmful UV radiation. The fluorescent compounds applied possessed the properties of optical brighteners or UV absorbers. They were applied separately at concentrations of 0.12% and 0.25% and with the addition of iron or copper ions at concentrations of 0.2 ; 0.5 ; 1.0 and 2.0 mg dm- 3. The effect of iron and copper ions on fluorescent compounds in solution was monitored spectrophotometrically and fluorimetrically. The obtained results have shown that iron and copper metal ions affected on the absorption and fluorescence properties. With the increase of metal ion concentration, absorption and fluorescence generally decreased. Iron and copper ions significantly affected on the optical properties of the observed compounds when present in excess of 1.0 mg dm-3. This research has highlighted the importance of monitoring the quality of water for washing process, especially control of metal ions as quenching substances of fluorescent compounds in washing baths.
