Sažetak
The testimonials of the oldest parish church of St. Michael for the year 1919 comprise records that the renowned teacher Josip Böhm arrived to the Ernestinovo subsidiary from Petrijevci. In addition to the service of the teacher and organist, he also received the services of the postman and the reader. There was no church or a chapel in Ernestinovo at that time, but only a place of worship that served as a schoolroom and vice versa. This above mentioned facts are evidenced in the recently found document in the parish archive “The Book of Minutes of the Church Municipality Board of Ernestinovo” containing records on 86 pages from 15 October 1919 to 30 November 1927 signed by Josip Böhm, the head teacher and recorder. Böhm, among other things, edited the "Church Songbook" in the edition of Ljudevit Szekler in 1916, and used it in state schools and a book in German “Eine Sammlung Kirchengesänge und Gebete”, which was printed in 1920 in the edition of Prva hrvatska dionička tiskara (the First Croatian Stock Printing House) in Osijek and experienced its second edition in 1942. All three books are an integral part of the local history collection Essekiana of the Museum of Slavonia in Osijek. This paper is a research into the life and work of the organist, postman, teacher and reader (Vorbeter) Josip Böhm by reading into the a parish testimonial, a recently found records written by Böhm himself in 1929 to create a “Collection of Biographies of Croatian Catholic Cultural Workers” (he was a student and contributor to Ilija Okrugić, a Croatian writer, national revivalist and priest from Srijem) and unknown minutes of the Ernestinovo church board (which gives evidence, among other things, of Bohm's relationship to Dr Kamilo Firinger, the Croatian archivist and lawyer in Osijek) in the pattern of researching into the history of emotions. In this context, the history of emotions examines the relationships between emotions, culture, and identity that constantly intertwine. Although a minority (Other), Böhm, through his cultural, educational and religious activities, built Ernestinovo (a village of strong German identity) as a locus amoemus, thus participating in the process of forming a Slavonic local identity, that is, ultimately, of Croatian national awareness. One of the goals of this paper is to objectively evaluate the normative role of archival documents and sources (temporally and spatially distinct materials) within an emotional community around a charismatic personality.
