Sažetak
Food waste has been recognized as an economically effective energy source for anaerobic digestion, owing to its nutrient content and the unsustainability of food loss and waste. The complex chemical composition and variety of constituents that form biodegradable waste require new approaches in the anaerobic digestion process compared to animal manure and/or energy crops, especially in terms of the technical requirements for monodigestion of biodegradable waste. Biodegradation of organic materials is usually accomplished in two stages with the aim of increasing the digestibility of organic matter and enhancing biogas production. Complex organic matter could be pretreated using biological, physical, chemical and physico-chemical methods, such as by employing enzymes, chemicals, elevated temperature and other techniques. In addition, the duration of pretreatment could play an important role and could range from seconds up to several days. The final products, biogas and digestate, are obtained by digestion of pre- treated organic matter under anaerobic conditions. This study aims to demonstrate the impact of various parameters on the pretreatment of mechanically ground biodegradable waste (control), and biodegradable waste with different concentrations of meat and bone meal added as a co-substrate. Experimental analysis was performed to monitor the efficiency of the added meat and bone meal at different concentrations by measuring certain variables in the liquid and gas phases. In the liquid phase, ammonia nitrogen concentration (NH4-N), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and pH were monitored, and in the gas phase, concentrations of methane (CH4), hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen (O2) were measured.
