Sažetak
Brain volume reduction and association between altered volumes and neurodevelopmental outcomes have been reported in prematurely born chidren. As various cortical and subcortical regions play important role in motor development, was to study the relationship between volumetric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data in infants born at less tan 32 weeks gestation and early motor development at 12 months of corrected age (CA). Group of forty preterm infants born between 24 and 32 weeks gestational age (GA) were MRI scanned at term- equivalent (TEA). In addition, volumetric analysis of structural MRI data was performed using semiautomatic software, MNI Toolbox. The Infant Motor Profile (IMP) was used for the assessment of early motor development at 12 months of CA. There was an association between reduced frontal lobe, gray matter and cerebellum volume and low IMP scores. Reduced basal ganglia and thalamus (p<0.02) and cerebellum (p<0.04) volumes were significantly associated with poorer motor performance at 12 months of CA. Reduced volumes of frontal lobe, deep gray matter and cerebellum wil affect early motor development, and consequently have role in adverse motor perfomrmance at lager stages Our data suggest that volumetric MRI perfomrmed at TEA may serve as an additional ''biomarker'' for motor outcome in preterm infants.
