Sažetak
The brief retrospect on the 50 Most Celebrated Economists of the Twentieth Century originates from the author’s rigorous attempt to systemize relevant economic ideas represented by those whose names are woven into the history of economic thought. This volume is not, however, intended as an inventory of the noteworthy contributions of some of the great economists to economic discourse recorded throughout the 20th century. Nor, does it purport to deal exhaustively with the ideas and solutions of those economists whose names are listed as most celebrated ones. Its objective is to capture the essential quality of their work as great intellectuals by encompassing their economic postulates i.e. economic ideas that attracted general attention or took its place in the hierarchy of accepted or scarcely disputed truths. Their ideas, true of false, have contributed to the creation of ideas generally accepted at the present time, or such as are connected with these in the line of direct descent. This choice of focal time was clearly pertinent to the concerns of present time, for the ideas of the prominent economists of the last century, some being even on the borderland of economics, have exercised considerable influence either upon the theory itself, upon legislation, upon distinct economic policies, or upon the economic thought of the 21st century in general. In some way, the author challenges the audience to critically evaluate and judge his ruthless selectivity of only fifty representative contributors to the tradition of relatively young discipline of economics.
