Sažetak
To this day, Kant’s Critique of the Power of Judgment remains one of the most famous, influential and studied works in aesthetics ever written. His detailed account of the judgments of taste, particularly judgments of beauty, is still widely discussed by scholars, and even if aestheticians have moved on from beauty and sublimity as core aesthetic properties, Kant’s views on beauty are still indispensable for our understanding of it. In this paper, I will develop an account of how his ideas might help us understand one special domain which we tend to regard as particularly beautiful: poetry. My motivation for this enterprise is twofold: first, the fact that Kant himself praised poetry above all other forms of art. Second, the fact that more and more philosophers of literature have turned their attention to poetry, but have, for some reason, failed to take into consideration Kant’s account of poetry. To remedy such an overlook, here I sketch a view on what Kant might contribute to our understanding of poetry’s aesthetic appeal.
