Sažetak
Osteological remains of animals from the archeological sites of Žumberak, dating back from the prehistoric period to the late Middle Ages, and Lobor, dating back from the Middle to the Modern Age, were explored. Both archaeological sites are located in the region Hrvatsko Zagorje, about 70 km away from each other. In our research morphological methods were used. In both archaeological sites, osteological remains of domestic animals prevail, while there is a noticeable difference in the number of osteological elements belonging to certain animal species. The osteological remains of the sheep are prevalent at the archeological site of Žumberak, while the osteological remains of pigs, goats and cattle are less represented. In contrast, at the Lobor archeological site the osteological remains of cattle and pigs were dominantly represented. Although the archeological sites are not too close to each other, when comparing the same historical periods there was a significant difference in the number of found osteological remains belonging to certain domestic animal species. This finding is not only due to the climatic conditions, but also to the habits and life standard of people living there, since Lobor was situated on a significant trade route to northern and central Europe, while Žumberak was a typical rural area in the mountains away from the major roads.
