Sažetak
In vascular plants, TROL dynamically interacts with the flavoenzyme ferredoxin NADP+ oxidoreductase (FNR). Photosynthetic FNR catalyses electron transfer from reduced ferredoxin to NADP+. This reaction is known as the last step in the linear electron transport chain. TROL-FNR interaction also defines an efficient reactive oxygen species (ROS) avoidance mechanism, which was named FRAM (Free Radical Avoidance Mechanism). FRAM detoxifies super oxide anion species in a very efficient fashion that can even outcompete methyl viologen (paraquat herbicide) ROS propagation. TROL knock out Arabidopsis appears to be more resilient to oxidative damage, making FRAM a potential target for modifications in other plant species as well. In our future investigations of the FRAM, we intend to modify TROL in Solanaceae by using CRISPR Cas9 approach, making them suitable platforms for plants of the future efforts.
