Sažetak
Numerous signals in ship guidance, navigation and control are non-stationary (meaning that their frequency content is changing over time). Also, they are often multi-componential. In practical applications, these signals are additionally disturbed by noise, which complicates their processing. Classical methods for nonstationary signal analysis utilize Fourier frequency domain signal processing. However, real-life frequency domain filters are limited by numerous factors such as amplitude and phase frequency characteristics which significantly differ from the ideal, higher order filter design, additive noise etc. In addition, another shortcoming of this approach is providing the information on frequencies present in the analyzed signals without time localization of each frequency. Hence, enhanced signal analysis requires utilizing advanced and computationally demanding algorithms, such as algorithms for simultaneous representation of signals both in time and frequency (i.e., quadratic time-frequency distributions). The paper introduces time-frequency signal analysis, as a fast developing field in signal processing, to ship guidance, navigation and control (where, to our best knowledge it was not significantly used before).
