Sažetak
The Dinaridic and Hellenidic ophiolites, which can be traced along their strike for nearly 1000 km, represent the largest and unique ophiolite complex of the western parts of the Alpine-Himalaya belt. The Dinaridic ophiolites and genetically related formations occur both in the Dinaride Ophiolite Zone (DOZ) and the Sava-Vardar Zone (SVZ). However, these two ophiolite zones display prominant differences in origin, structure, age and relation with the associated syngenetic sedimentary formations and overstepping sedimentary sequences. The Dinaridic ophiolites represent remnants of the Mesozoic/Early Paleogene oceanic crust, which was generated in the Dinaridic Tethys during a period of about 150 Ma. The bulk of oceanic crust was generated under MORB-conditions in the progressively opening Tethys during the Late Triassic until the Late Jurassic/Early Cretaceous when it was dismembered and partly obducted on the Apulian margin - i.e. the first emplacement of ophiolites and generation of the incipient DOZ. The generation of the oceanic crust continued by secondary accretion during the Cretaceous/Early Paleogene in BARB geotectonic setting. Final closure of the BARB accompanied by Eocene collisional deformation that gave rise to the second emplacement of ophiolites, i.e., the generation of the SVZ and its thrusting onto the DOZ.
