Sažetak
Introduction/Objectives: Wellbeing refers to diverse and interconnected dimensions of physical, mental, and social well- being that extend beyond the traditional definition of health. It includes choices and activities aimed at achieving physical vitality, mental alacrity, social satisfaction, a sense of accomplishment, and personal fulfillment. Previous studies showed that wellbeing has a major impact on health and performance among medical students. The aim of his study was to assess perceived level of wellbeing and happiness among sixth year medical students at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. Participants, Materials/Methods: Study included 212 sixth-year students from School of Medicine, University of Zagreb aged 23 to 24 in academic year 2017/2018. Out of total number of 6th year students (N=302) 70.2% were involved in the study. Oxford Happiness Questionnaire was used for the measurement of wellbeing and happiness with the questions regarding sociodemographic characteristics of study participants. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results: Out of total number of students final analysis included 205 (67.9%), out of that 60.0% of females. Study showed that 57.1% of participants were 'rather to pretty happy' with the score 4-5 (51.22% males and 60.98% females). 'Very happy' with score 5-6 were 22.4% of students (23.17% males and 21.95% females). Score 3-4, meaning 'not particularly happy' had 18.1% of students (21.95% males and 15.45% females). 'Somewhat unhappy' were 2.4% students (3.66% males and 1.63% females) with score 2-3. No one was 'not happy at all' or 'too happy'. There was no significant difference between male and female students (χ 2 =2.79, P>0.05). Conclusions: Our study showed that majority of sixth-year students are 'rather to pretty happy'.The promising fact is that no one scored extreme results, however considering the percentage of participants who scored below 'rather to pretty happy' it is needed to improve the level of happiness among students. Knowing importance of happiness and wellbeing for health and fulfilled life further studies are necessary. Key words: medical students, happiness, mental health
