Sažetak
Besides the scientific and educational role, higher educational institutions have role of the social impact in local community. The Universities should work on awareness of the importance of adopting and applying knowledge and skills in civic engagement of students. As Faculty of Chemistry and Technology works with students in STEM area and environmental protection through the service learning it aims to improve the cross-sectoral environmental protection cooperation and sustainable development. Implementation of service learning programs stimulated and actively engaged students, teachers, strengthen inter-sector cooperation and order to promote and encourage socially useful learning for environmental protection and sustainable development including university students in solving the environmental problems in local community. Faculty of Chemistry and Technology recognized service learning as a pedagogical model that could bring new forms of learning and improve educational impact of curriculum. This paper gives an insight in the way service learning program increased and developed professional competence among students of STEM area at Faculty of Chemistry and Technology by integrating the model of service learning in the universities’curriculums.
