Sažetak
The presentation offers an outline of specific characteristics of Legal English, such as archaisms, specific collocations, the use of legal doublets, special way of using modal verbs, nominalization and subordination. It also addresses the influence of other languages (Latin and French in particular) on the development of Legal English, which resulted in an unusually significant number of borrowings, as well as the formal character of the legal language. The paper also deals with the manner in which Legal English has been changing recently, in particular trough the Plain English for Law movement.
