Prof. Predrag Putnik, is senior researcher born in Zagreb, graduated in 2012, from the University in Zagreb, Biotechnical Sciences (field of Food Engineering). With research background in applied laboratory work (chemistry, biology, bioinformatics, food science, nutrition, molecular biology, and industrial food engineering), information technology, and teaching. He is a double scholarship winner, granted total of $120,000.00 for education from two reputable USA universities. As a “grade A” graduate researcher at the University of Connecticut, he has gained invaluable knowledge and technical skills in epidemiology, statistics, molecular nutrition, public health, and applied research in community nutrition and diabetes. There he was awarded with Master of Science degree in nutrition.
He is formally trained as scientific reviewer for the statistical analysis and research methodology in the field of nutrition and food science. Formal training was part of the regular education under the courses that were held at University of Connecticut. He serves as a peer reviewer for the highly ranked scientific journals as: Food Chemistry; Food Research International; Critical Reviews in Biotechnology; Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety; Journal of Food Science; Food Control etc. He is registered expert evaluator for the European Commission (Prima, Horizon 2020, ERC, FP7 and Eureka), and Croatian (BICRO, HRZZ) projects.
He has +90 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, where most of the journals have the highest impact factor (Q1) for food science and technology (hindex: 32; h10-Index: 56 with 3611 citations according to Google Scholar). With two other colleagues he edited book titled "Agri-Food Industry Strategies for Healthy Diets and Sustainability" Academic Press, Elsevier. He is topic editor with Nanomaterials, MDPI (IF=5.08; 35/160; Q1) and FOODS, MDPI, and he was invited as guest editor for two journals: Food Research International, Elsevier, Special issue "Conventional, Non-Conventional Extraction Techniques and New Strategies for The Recovery of Bioactive Compounds from Plant Material for Human Nutrition" and Foods, MDPI; "Novel food processing and extraction technologies" and for "Sustainable Functional Food Processing." He is review editor for “Frontiers in Nutrition” (IF=6.58; 12/89; Q1), and member of the Editorial Board in FOODS, MDPI (IF=4.35; 27/144; Q2) and prestigious Elsevier’s “Food Chemistry (IF=7.51; 7/144; Q1),” "Food Research International (IF=6.48; 9/144; Q1)," "Food Control (IF=5.55; 19/144; Q1)," and "Food Engineering Reviews (IF=5.76; 17/144; Q1)" from Springer, and Journal of Food Science, John Wiley & Sons (IF=3.17; 57/144; Q2).
In addition, there are +25 international conference presentations and invited talks. In 2019, he was invited speaker to the 2nd Food Chemistry conference that is the largest symposium of that kind in the world. In 2020 he was elected as the top 2% of scientists of their main subfield discipline and ranked by WOS Essential Science Indicators at 67/6017 worldwide position by the number of highly cited papers and 12/6017 by the number of hot papers for Agricultural sciences. In 2021 he received Tanner Award for co-authoring the most-cited paper published in Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety in 2018 (IF=12.81 2/144 Q1 Food Sci).
