Cancer activity (CA)/Anticancer activity (ACA)
Cancer (CA) is a disease which involves cell transformation, deregulation of apoptosis, proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Anticancer activity (ACA) is a term used for the action of different compounds against or tending to prevent CA. The developing knowledge about CA biology suggests that anticancer treatment with high doses of the anticancer drug is not always appropriate, because it may cause different side effects. Thus, the scientists have found an alternative approach to anticancer treatment in synergistic organic compounds which already exist in many therapeutic plants and oils. Natural peptides have many advantages in comparison with synthetic anticancer compounds. They are mainly toxicologically safe, have a wide spectrum of therapeutic action, exhibit less side effects as compared to synthetic drugs and are better absorbed in the intestinal tract. The compounds with ACA may influence CA through various mechanisms such as antioxidant, antimutagenic, and antiproliferative, enhancement of immune function and surveillance, enzyme induction and enhancing detoxification, as well as modulation of multidrug resistance.
