Are there motivational differences among undergraduate and graduate students in Croatia?

Motivation represents one of the most important processes within human resource management, explaining why people behave in a certain way or why they undertake certain efforts and actions. In the context of this paper, the focus of the research is on students’ motivation, perceiving motivation as a process, which leads them towards academic success, stimulating their desire for learning and development as well as fulfilment of their tasks, expectations and goals. The main aim of this paper is to explore the level of students’ motivation and their potential differences among undergraduate and graduate students. Also, research examines the existence of any potential differences among extrinsic and intrinsic motivational factors, which students perceive as the most important ones. Furthermore, additional aim of this paper is to reveal weather students’ motivational attitudes have changed within certain sequence of time, comparing their opinions and attitudes, which they formed in period of two years. The assumption is that students differently perceive importance of extrinsic motivational factors in accordance to intrinsic ones, as well as that their level of motivation changes during the time. Verification of the evidence is based upon two researches, which were conducted among undergraduate and graduate students on Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism in Split, Croatia in 2016. (157 students) and 2018. (84 students). Students participated online survey available through social networks, answering general questions related to their background and continuously questions related to the importance of different motivational factors and overall level of motivation using 1-5 Likert scale.
